Lazarus is sick and his sisters Martha and Mary send the word to Jesus to come because their brother whom He loves was sick. Although Jesus gets the report in good time, he spends two more days where He is before He sets course to go and attend to Lazarus. Jesus knows and he plainly tells His disciples by then that Lazarus is dead.

When they get there they find that Lazarus has been dead and in the tomb for 4 days and the people are still mourning. Martha Lazarus’ sister tells Jesus if only you had come earlier Lazarus would still be alive.

John 11:25

25 Jesus said to her, “[d]I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, relies on) Me [as Savior] will live even if he dies; 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me [as Savior] will never die. 25 Jesus said to her, “[d]I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, relies on) Me [as Savior] will live even if he dies; 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me [as Savior] will never die.

I love how Jesus brings back the focus to Himself by saying I am the resurrection and the life. He is telling Martha yes Lazarus is dead but don’t focus on that which is dead, focus here, on me because I am resurrection and I am life! Though Lazarus is dead, I am here and I will resurrect him and give him life! Wow, how powerful it must have been for those who were there to experience that!

Though we were dead to sin destined for eternal damnation, Jesus who is the resurrection and life brought us back to life and breathed life into us once we trusted and relied on Him just like He told Martha.

Remember yesterday we looked at the statement I am the way the truth and the life. The life that Jesus gives is one that cannot be destroyed by physical death! It is life eternal. Christ proved and validated this statement when he was crucified and he died but three days later He that had been crucified rose back from the dead proving that He is indeed the resurrection and the life!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

A day is coming when those who are dead in Christ will be resurrected and those still alive and in Christ shall be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord. Have you booked your ticket for that trip? If you haven’t do so today because Heaven has not closed its doors and its free all you have to do is turn from your sins and believe in Jesus!
